Win 7 64-bit system: The overlay can only be brought up with shift+tab during text sequences both in-game and in the notes sections, but not while anything with selectable menu options is open. I'm not sure it's an issue, but someone else mentioned the overlay causing problems from menu screens.

Win Vista laptop: The results are the same.

I'm having similar issues with Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

When I started up the program in fullscreen and went into extras I noticed this odd thing:

Part of the notification lingered onto the empty space. Furthermore, I couldn't Shift+Tab into the overlay.

It was only when I was actually in the novel itself I could open the overlay.

However, when I tried to close the overlay, this happened:

Easily fixed by clicking once, but then part of the overlay lingered in the empty space.

Also, I tried opening and closing the overlay in the main menu when I was in Windowed mode, and it froze.

It was stuck like that for at least 5 minutes before I closed it.

possible duplicate of #17 once new builds are ready we'll ask to test again

in the RenderOverlay branch there's a fix committed, wasn't added to master due to the performance overhead. I'll make some separate binaries for all OSes that can be tested before merged to master.

Please test with https://github.com/sekaiproject/ponscripter-fork/releases/tag/v0.0.3 binaries, you'll have to overwrite the ones in Steam.

Works a charm (Windows), steam overlay is responsive when text has finished rendering, as well as in the title screen.

New issue however - If you alt-tab out of Narcissu while fullscreen mode is engaged, Narcissu maxes out CPU usage.

Alt-tabbed while in fullscreen mode
capture

Alt-tabbed while windowed, or game in focus both windowed and fullscreen.

It seems like the FPS cap no longer works while running in the background. The FPS cap works properly even dragging the window between different monitors - on my 75Hz monitor, it becomes 75FPS, on my 120HZ it becomes 120FPS, on my 60HZ it becomes 60FPS.

I can make this a new issue if you want.

On my OS X build of this branch, the Steam overlay works great. Mostly. There's an issue where after the mpeg video is played, from then on the Steam overlay goes back to being extremely laggy like before.

Update: Looks like I'm experiencing the CPU issue in fullscreen mode on OS X. It normally runs at about 7%, but it jumps up to 17% when running in the background in fullscreen.

New binary works for steam overlay.
Seems not to produce performance issues here (OSX 10.9 i7).

Takes a little while for the game to get Steam sorted as per usual, but once it did, overlay is working fine everywhere in test binary: menus, story, notes.

Should have fixed Yirba's comment regarding it breaking after video playback (cb57ac7). I'll work on fixing background cpu issues next.

Yup, the issue with it breaking after video playback has been fixed.

Another new build, this should fix the 100% cpu issue that @rdmx reported. OSX binaries are also updated

The CPU issue is still not resolved on my OS X 10.7 system.

When the window is visible, CPU averages around 2%. When hidden behind another window, it jumps up to about 41%.

On Windows 8, excess CPU usage while in full screen and alt-tabbed appears to be fixed.

I'm not experiencing the behaviour @Yirba describes where hiding the Narcissu window behind another one causes a jump in CPU. Is it platform specific?

I think that we should split off the 100% CPU in to a separate ticket.

This should be resolved, latest build has been pushed to Steam, please reopen if is still a issue
