Basic video processing tool to convert screen recording of slideshow to individual slides

Takes in an mp4 file (such as a screen recording of a slide show presentation) and saves all unique frames to a new directory.

Quickstart

To run from command line where video name is "example.mp4" :

  • python vidToSlides.py example.mp4

  • Will create a directory named 'example' (or whatever the video name was) which is where all of the slides will be saved.

  • Will log every time a unique slide is found with how far into the video it was found in minutes.

  • Finally outputs the total number of unique slides found

  • All of these slides can be found as JPG's in the directory which was created

Note: Only checks every 500 frames for efficiency. Some slides that is up for less than 500 frames will be ignored. (if for example, a lecturer quickly navigates through every slide to find a specific one, the slides that are up for less than 500 frames will be ignored.)

My usecase:

Had a lecturer who wouldn't upload lecture slides but opted in for lectures to be recorded so found myself using the lecture videos to view the slides. Used this tool to make my own pdf slides for easier viewing.
