The first generation EM was based on stock Debian distro. It had a simple window manager configured as a kiosk.
EM2 or Karpix OS is a custom Linux kernel based on 3.12 source. It is based on node server in a minimal x window configuration.
This configuration is glued to the intel atom motherboards that are past end of life.
