AP Downloader Wiki

About

Armstrong Powerhouse makes a range of excellent addons for Train Simulator; but downloading and installing them can be tedious and error-prone. AP Downloader aims to make this easier, it both downloads and installs AP Products with only a few clicks, and makes keeping up to date with latest updates easy.

To keep track of your product's status AP Downloader compares your downloaded zip files against AP's website, using a local Sql database to interface between the two. AP Downloader at this current time does not know the status of addons installed, it only knows what you have downloaded. If you install every download then delete the zips AP Downloader will think you are missing every addon.

In the past Installing TS had led to much Temp file bloat with both the "Temp" and "Downloaded Installations" folders being filled with hundreds of megabytes of files. AP Downloader removes the temp files created by AP installers to keep the disk impact of them to a minimum.

AP Installers have always required agreeing to the User-Account notification popup, to make silent installs work AP Downloader must be run as an Administrator

Setup

AP Downloader comes in a 7zip setup file, simply extract the files to your preferred directory and launch using ApDownloader.exe

Using the AP Downloader

On Program launch you are greeted by the login screen. If you only want to install previously downloaded addons you do not need to login, it is only needed if you want to download new addons or check for updates. No login information is kept in memory, it is sent immediately to AP to get the cookie for the Client.

Options Page

If this is your first time running AP Downloader it is recommended that you visit the options screen; here you can set up which extra files you want and default folder locations.

  • The download folder is where download zips are saved, they are kept in 4 folders corresponding to the 4 types of files: Base Products, Extra Stock, Branding Patches, Livery Packs. If you have an existing folder of AP .zip files, you can select this folder as your download folder, hit "Apply", then sort the files into AP Downloader's 4-folder structure by clicking "Organize Folder"
  • The RailWorks Location is the path of the folder that contains your Railworks.exe executable, most commonly "../Steamapps/common/Railworks" If you don't supply a valid RailWorks install you will not be able to set this folder location and install addons.

Download Page

This page is where your addon's status is checked, and where you can choose to download your products.

Any products that have been updated since you last time downloaded will have a yellow warning icon on them and be selectable by the "Select out of date packs" checkbox.

Any products that have not been downloaded will have a red warning icon and can be selected with the "Select missing packs" checkbox

Install Page

This page is where you install your downloaded addons. By default the most-recently downloaded addons appear, but if "All Downloads" is clicked it will pull up all AP zip files in the download folder. Installing is disabled if the program is not being run as Administrator.

Clicking "Install" Launches silent installs for all the selected products. If you exit at mid-point there is no record of what has been installed, so this is not recommended.
