I want to develop a gem to manipulate text columns in a model. Idea: If a model has one or several text type columns, it will slow down to query all records. This gem is intended to move the text columns to a seperate table, called texts. The table texts may contains columns id, target_model_id, target_model, target_column, content and others created_at, updated_at. for example, model: fund - id, name, fund_symbol, risk_desc (text), production_desc (text) 1, 'ABC', '100020' , 'low risk, blabla...', 'This fund is very attractive, blabla' then table: texts id target_model_id, target_model, target_column, content 1 1 Fund risk_desc 'low risk, blabla....' 2 2 Fund production_desc 'This fund is very attractive, blabla' The model becomes id, name, fund_symbol, risk_desc, production_desc 1, 'ABC', '100020', 1, 2 let's say we have a variable f=Fund.find(1); then we can access to its text content, like this, f.risk_desc_text or f.production_desc_text though, it becomes fast using Fund.all, as there is no text column listed. But as a drawback, you can access its texts columns in a list, like Fund.all.text_includes(:risk_desc, :production_desc).
