Long story short: We need this, but it needs to be done carefully.
Currently de-activated due to memory errors and non existing thread safety.

See also #3660 and the subsequent #3667

Need to address #3732 first in order to be able to detect issues.

Might also need to work on read-only style features as cloning the data (as done in current draft is not an option)
