Signals current InRelease file contains the following:

Origin: . xenial
Label: . xenial
Suite: xenial
Codename: xenial
Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2018 21:16:10 UTC
Architectures: amd64
Components: main
Description: Generated by aptly

While it should be possible to match the current values I think they are far from optimal. Id like to be able to update Signal Desktop with unattended-upgrades.

A slightly better example looks like this:

Origin: Google, Inc.
Label: Google
Suite: stable
Codename: stable
Version: 1.0
Date: Thu, 12 Apr 2018 18:09:22 +0000
Architectures: amd64
Components: main
Description: Google chrome-linux repository.

Somewhat related issues to packaging are #1431 #2037

Asking for proper values in the repository InRelease file is not a feature request, it's a bug report.

I opened new issue #5545 for this.

Makes sense, sorry this was closed by mistake. I'll leave this one closed in favor of #5545
