Sorry about that. I'm unable to reproduce it on stock Ubuntu. What window manager do you use? Could attach a screenshot, please?

Same for me, stock Ubuntu, regular Gnome/Wayland or whatever it comes with.

The image is so wide because I also cannot resize Signal, it suddenly insists on taking up the entire width of the screen, which is very annoying. It stopped listening to the Gnome resize buttons too, since a few days ago.

@goto-engineering Maybe you could talk about your graphics driver/hardware? Maybe it's something about window size? We have many others saying that stock Ubuntu works just fine for them.

@indutny-signal, sorry for the delay.

I have attached a screenshot. As you can see, the buttons are not available.

My Window Manager is X11.

The problem still exists in Signal 6.31.0.

@habeasdata404 Maybe you could talk about your graphics driver/hardware? Anything else you've done to your install to make it non-standard? Or, perhaps you could say when this started happening for you? We still can't reproduce this with a basic Ubuntu 22 install.

@scottnonnenberg-signal, as far as I know, my installation is standard. Ubuntu 20.04 was preinstalled and then I upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04.

My hardware specifications are as follows:

  • Notebook Dell G15 5520
  • Kernel: 6.2.0-33-generic
  • GPU: Intel Alder Lake-P
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Mobile
  • Driver: NVIDIA 470

Any change with recent builds?

@scottnonnenberg-signal, the problem persists up to the latest version (6.35.0).

Oddly enough, Signal is the only application with this behavior.

@scottnonnenberg-signal and @indutny-signal, today I updated Signal to version 6.39.0, opened the app and the screen was exactly the same as reported on September, 20th (screenshot below). As you can see, it's not the full screen mode because the menu bar is visible.

Original screenshot

Then I selected the "Toggle Full Screen" option (F11) and the buttons (minimize, maximize and close) were visible again (screenshot below).

signal-6 39 0-normal-mode

I pressed F11 again and the full screen was activated (without buttons).

signal-6 39 0-full-screen-mode

The problem is probably related to the full screen mode. In my original screenshot, even though I was not in the full screen mode (the menu bar was visible), the buttons were hidden. Now the behavior is different and as expected: the buttons are only hidden in full screen mode.

Hi, I think I've identified the issue. @habeasdata404 thanks for your help with debugging.
It seems like repro is:

  1. Open app and go full screen (press F11). Menu is hidden.
  2. Close app
  3. Reopen app.
  4. App is full screen, however menu is visible. Menu should be hidden.

@ayumi-signal, I recently updated Signal to version 6.47.1 and repeated the steps to reproduce the error.

The problem persists.
