Bug description

Signal crashes when trying to pick an iOS screen recording that's been cropped (via the Photos app) to be 828 x 142. Picking the original (or a cropped version of it with dimensions being closer to square) works as expected.

Steps to reproduce

  • Go to a chat.
  • Press the "+" button.
  • Press the "gallery" button.
  • Choose a video that causes this issue.

Actual result: Signal displays an overlay with the loading indicator and a "Cancel" button for some time, then crashes. Sometimes, when the video is picked directly from the attachment keyboard ("+" > pick the video), the loading indicator on it may spin forever.

Expected result: It should be possible to edit and send the video.

Device info

Device: iPhone XR
iOS version: iOS 16.2 Public Beta 3 (20C5049e)
Signal version: 6.3.0.14

The screen recording / video that causes the issue, as well as the iOS crash report, are available for developers in https://community.signalusers.org/t/35733/15.
