mSOS (mobile SMS based disease outbreak alert system) was established as part of the JICA-JST SATREPS project on the “development of rapid diagnostics and the establishment of an alert system for outbreaks of yellow fever and Rift Valley fever in Kenya”. It is an international collaboration project in partnership with the Disease Surveillance and Response Unit (DSRU) at the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Kenya, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), and the Institute of Tropical Medicine at Nagasaki University in Japan.
The mSOS system development was done with help from Faculty and Students at Strathmore University Faculty of IT. The system will undergo a pilot implementation process in 2013.
