Refactor the code, at least a little bit, please and thanks

For whatever reason, the CSS that controls alert boxes is located in the .less file that's supposedly about the header (the toolbar at the top of the page). These REALLY don't seem related.

Anyway, that's just one issue that I happened to notice. There are SO MANY OTHER PROBLEMS.

We'll probably need to go through the code more thoroughly to figure out the structure and reorganize accordingly.

Refactoring into helpers / utils, which are used in modules each corresponding to particular portions of the app, would help blackboard.html / blackboard.less / blackboard.coffee be less monolithic, more sensible, and more organized.
