The method 'groupBy' isn't defined for the type 'SimpleSelectStatement'

After much reading and comparing to examples, I still can't see why groupBy is not defined in this context:

      leftOuterJoin(mtStrings, mtStrings.mtValueId.equalsExp(mtValues.id)),
      leftOuterJoin(booleans, booleans.mtValueId.equalsExp(mtValues.id)),
      leftOuterJoin(mtDateTimes, mtDateTimes.mtValueId.equalsExp(mtValues.id)),
      leftOuterJoin(floats, floats.mtValueId.equalsExp(mtValues.id)),
      leftOuterJoin(integers, integers.mtValueId.equalsExp(mtValues.id)),
      leftOuterJoin(blobs, blobs.mtValueId.equalsExp(mtValues.id)),
    ])

Grepping the source I see that groupBy is a member of JoinedSelectStatement and not SimpleSelectStatement, but all examples I can find start with just select. What am I missing?

Cancel that. Found two errors there. Can't delete the discussion :(

Use a single dot before join, and the where clause should simply be ..where(survey.surveyInstrumentId.equals(surveyInstrument.id))
