This repository contains the partial translation of the GIMP documentation in the Greek language.

About 1/7 of the HTML files have been translated. Normally, the translation takes place
at http://l10n.gnome.org/languages/el/gnome-gimp/doc/ (using PO files). However, we 
want to salvage as much as possible from the work that was already done.

This repository helps extract at least half of the work and creates PO files that
can be used as translation memory to aid the proper translation.

Here's what we do:

1. Install Git

   sudo apt-get install git

2. Clone this repository

   git clone git://github.com/simos/gnome-l10n-merge-html.git

3. The en and el directories contain the HTML files, both original and translated ones.
In addition, the directories have the images which are not used with this script.

The file FILES contains a file list of the HTML files (found in el/) that have been translated.
We try to salvage those files.

We run

  cat FILES | awk '{ printf "xml2po -m xhtml -o en/%s.po en/%s.html; xml2po -m xhtml -o el/%s.po el/%s.html\n",$1, $1, $1, $1 }' | sh

That command generates PO files out of the .html files.

The script MergeHTMLPO.py iterates through the pairs of HTML files, and joins them together into

4. The resulting script produces final PO files and places them in output/

   ./MergeHTMLPO.py 

is the command to generate the PO files in output/
In addition, the command shows how many of the translated HTML files are usable
(the translation adds changes which remove messages; so we have en/gimp-using-paths-properties.po
with 24 messages and el/gimp-using-paths-properties.po. These are not used; if you can edit
the HTML file so that it produces 24 messages, then ./MergeHTMLPO.py and you get that file included
into output/ )
