Description of the Issue

I had just downloaded the Sega Bass Fishing 2 CDI from Coolrom, and I was ready to play it, but... past the SEGA screen, my touchscreen buttons dissapeared and so did my menu, looking like a completely black screen. Some weird small lines (and a small pulsating black square) also appeared on the screen. Then, though, I realized that they were only invisible, as tapping where the buttons where would still perform their corresponding action. Still, with this issue SBF2 is almost unplayable for me. Like, yeah, I could mayyybe just deal with it and guess where the buttons are, but that's... annoying. (Also, the menu's made visible again if I exit and re-enter with the tabs button, but the buttons are kept invisible.)

Debugging Steps Tested

  • Tried closing and reopening several times
  • Tried enabling Force GLESv2 option
  • Tried downloading the CDI from different sites
  • Tried changing the region
  • Tried booting the game from BIOS
  • Tried using GDI instead of CDI
  • Tried using default touchscreen config
  • And it still didn't work

Logs Gathered

I don't have any.

Issue appears related to #1927 and #1914 especially considering how the VMU window looks.

At last, somebody who replies for once!
The main issue's not about the VMU display though. I mean, yeah, that also could be worked over (hence the "sort of") ...but nah, that's a whole different story to what I posted here for, which is up there in the issue. The game isn't that fun anyway, though. (BTW, it should be worth mentioning that games with certain graphics like the cube thing animations in Rez and the page turns in Reel Fishing: Wild crash the emulator. It's been mentioned several times already, but since it happens to me too... yeah.)

If you'll notice, while the VMU is rendering strangely in both issues, Sega Bass Fishing is experiencing the similar Video "chopped" bug, which you can see on my post here, so yes, I really assume all of these issues are related.

However, no, you're probably not going to get an answer to this, as none of us are getting answers due to Reicast restructuring itself here #1928

So the emulator as-is probably not going to see any fixes for this. We will have to wait until the next incarnation of this emulator.

Oh, I see. Pretty good that Reicast is going to be completely revamped. I wonder if there'll be support for VMU software, but that's unlikely, as something that would be more expectable would be a new engine that can handle more detailed graphics, such as Puyo Pop Fever's 3D menu feature or the forementioned Rez layer transitions. Only time will tell, I guess... anyway, thanks for telling me.
