Mentee:

Mirae Parker (she/her)

Mentor(s):

@fkiraly @GuzalBulatova @lmmentel

Why did you join sktime's mentorship program?

  • I want to learn more about how to work on large code bases collaboratively.
  • On that note I would like to improve my skills as a software developer more broadly
  • I like sktime as a package, and find a lot of the questions associated with time series analysis very interesting
  • Hoping to improve my data science/statistical skills
  • Want to learn more about how to build a good open source project/bring these skills to some other projects I have been working on!

What topics are you working on?

Been doing some work developing the Multiplexing pipelines for Forecasters and Transformers:

And currently working on writing MultiplexTransformer and associated tests.

Going forward/once the coding session starts plan to pivot and spend mroe time working on annotation! Will start with building documentation for current annotation modules, and will then begin implementing my own estimator (based on Hidden Markov Model) Will update with more PRS/issues as I make them! :)

What are your learning goals?

  • Improve knowledge of software design/best practices (has come up to some degree already with templating patterns/reducing the "Banana Gorilla Jungle" problem)
  • Feel more confident/mathematically and statistically well grounded in the work I am doing
  • Add my own estimator to sktime, and learn from thinking about how to best do that on multiple scales - ie how can we make this more efficient (from an algorithms or code optimization perspective) to how we can design the most logical and useful API.

What's next for you after the mentorship program?
