First, I realize support is being rewritten, so if these issues have already been addressed in that branch, please ignore this.

As mentioned in issue #1321, the support overhang threshold in slic3r seems to be off. I tried both git head and 0.9.10b. I want to keep support on for difficult overhangs, but my printer handles overhangs like those in the hollow calibration pyramid without problems, so I want to tune support generation to my printer's capabilities. Here's the hollow calibration pyramid:

Leaving the overhang threshold at 0 to let slic3r decide generates a full X shaped support. I tried setting an angle threshold of 60, but the support is still generated. I tried increasing it to 80, and it was still generated. Increasing the threshold to 90 removed all the support. Since this was mentioned elsewhere, hopefully it's not just me who doesn't get exactly what the angle refers to. :)

Sample gcode, slic3r config embedded in each gcode file:

80 degree threshold: http://kefirshare.dreamhosters.com/Hollower_pyramid_0.9.10b_80deg.gcode

90 degree threshold: http://kefirshare.dreamhosters.com/Hollower_pyramid_0.9.10b_90deg.gcode

auto theshold: http://kefirshare.dreamhosters.com/Hollower_pyramid_0.9.10b_auto.deg.gcode

By the way, I noticed the new slic3r manual says about support: "there are several aspects which determine the optimal support, it is strongly recommended to set the threshold to zero and allow Slic3r to determine the support required." If I override the threshold, I think it makes more sense if slic3r doesn't blindly obey my threshold, but builds a strong support while trying to keep it within the bounds I've requested.

Yes, it seems the threshold for support is still not working.

I've done several tests and uploaded the files here:

I'm using slic3r 0.99.10b x64 on Win7 64bit
