Owncloud configuration
So you have setup OwnCloud!
No problem these are not automatically installed you simply need to do the following
- Finish the initial setup with a admin user/password
- Click on Apps and then the '+' button
- Click on the recommended link on the left (they don't appear in the regular lists of apps)
- Enable each app that you wish to have one at a time 👍
Now if you want a free open-source method to sync your ownCloud Contacts & Calendar with your Android, you can do the following:
You may use DAVdroid with a self-signed certificate. The certificate must be imported into the Android trust store, thus enabling access to your server for DAVdroid and other applications like the email app as well. Fortunately, the DAVdroid developer has some steps here to do that, which you have to do before adding your account to DAVdroid.
- Download and install DAddroid via F-Droid.
- Go to Settings / Accounts.
- Add a new DAVdroid account (Login with URL & user name).
- Enter your server details (http://cloud.domain.tld/remote.php/caldav/) and click the "Next" action button.
- Select the address book and calendar(s) you want to be synchronized and click the "Next" action button.
- Enter the name for the account. It's recommended to use user@domain.tld as account name.
- Click OK!
Note: If you add more calendars to ownCloud, you will have to setup DAVdroid again as it does not detect new calendars.
Fortunately, ownCloud have their own Android app for accessing files. You can choose to pay for it on Google Play, or download the free version from F-Droid. There is no difference in the app between the two repositories.
