Welcome to the flow wiki!

flow

Flow is something we develop an innate sense of. As Rich Hickey points out (via Heraclitus) :

“No man can cross the same river twice”

Indeed, even when revisiting our own thoughts, notes have a particular angle, collected writing may often have unexplored avenues, and others in a conversation will return with updates, misunderstandings and reinterpretations. The unifier across such active, dynamic contacts — {as I see it} — is

I took a dive into 'complexity' and 'chaos' in 2015, within the context of biological system dynamics ("systems biology"). Some of these explorations made it into a visual/textual record, but I've found it wasn't very well tagged. Systems biology is supposed to lean on a systems-oriented subdomain of mathematics, {Wiki:control theory} and specifically its application in {Wiki:electrical engineering} known as '{Wiki:control engineering}' (similar to {Wiki:chemical engineering}'s parallel, '{Wiki:process engineering}').

spin.systems (and its subprojects within this GitHub organisation) are an attempt to be logical and structured as I go about working with greater complexity as a postgraduate.

  • It may seem excessive, but I find that thinking any less carefully is a recipe for disaster, or at least not a pleasant way to live.
  • Things don't have to be consolidated in the first instance, but coherence, unité de plan as much as of Planck
    • I'm trying to avoid gnomic or cryptic notes, but I do find inspiration in meandering out into French, Japanese and [increasingly hazy...] Latin, as well as the occasional pun/elaborate extended metaphor, which can be productive means to a sensible set of abstractions...
      • ...so be warned (:

Organisation

  • All images in this Wiki are from a GitHub repo lmmx/shots, with semantic/sensible tags and comments (in filenames, on commit messages, and in GitHub comments following the initial commit)
    • I use both command-line and the in-browser interface to add these via GitHub
    • I don't try and recreate the offline file system in the shots repo, which highlights the degeneracy (not a CDN yet, but it is free)
      • NB degenerate in the sense of:

(of an encoding or function) Having multiple domain elements correspond to one element of the range. The genetic code is degenerate because a single amino acid can be coded by one of several codons.

Credit

  • Theme being edited is immaculate, supporting AMP [Google Accelerated Mobile Pages], as I feel the reduction of time between links is not just a pedantic optimisation but highlights the value [or rather value(s) of whom/what] of latency on the edges of network functionality

  • Immaculate was written by Siaw Young, a senior-year CS student graduating from U. Singapore soon. Check out his blog here (:

I’m obsessed with becoming a better developer, which is the main reason why this blog exists. I find that writing about code, instead of writing code, helps me clarify and crystallize concepts better. Although I do not expect a large audience for this blog, pretending like I’m writing for one forces me to articulate the same concept over and over again, which I find invaluable. Put another way, I’m harnessing the fear of being embarrassed publicly to learn better.
