EmbyVision

EmbyVision is a small app that allows for Blind or partially sighted people to use speech to control an Emby Media client. The app has been primarily created for a couple I knoe, who are both blind, and allows them to control the media on the server they have set up via speech commands. The app also provides extensive feedback regarding the media and the commands stated. Of course Emby can be controlled from voice with systems like the Emby Alexa or VoxCommando, although these are still geared towards sighted users and unfortunately still don’t have the feedback needed for a visually impaired user to really get to grips with their media.

IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE USING THE SOFTWARE

The software uses the Microsoft built in speech recognition engine; this unfortunately is notoriously flaky when used in continuous speech mode with a shitty microphone. Although you could probably use this software in such a manner I suggest you use a microphone that is close to the user and is capable of being activated only when the command needs to be issued. My parents use the Amulet speech remote control although you could also use alternatives such as the Amazon Voice fire stick remote.

Currently the software allows for the control of Live TV, Movies & TV Shows, you can get a list of commands from the links below.

General Commands
Navigation Commands
Movies
Live TV
TV Shows

Upcoming updates which I have in my timeline include:
Live TV EPG
Recorded TV and recording management
Music Management
MEF Plugin system for further service connectivity
Groove Music subscription plugin
