Development of applications like DZGUI and KES is labor-intensive and time-consuming due to the research and testing that goes into it: I must verify in detail how certain games and applications communicate with the end-user's system.

In the case of DZGUI, it took two years of continuous development and research into DayZ servers and the protocols around them to cover the majority of features users had asked for. This has led to suporting functionality that would otherwise be totally unavailable on Linux, as well as extending support for the Steam Deck, and having a knock-on effect by discovering bugs in the Steam client itself, in GNOME applications, and various Linux distributions and reporting them upstream.

A sample of actively maintained projects:

  • DZTUI/DZGUI: the first, most feature complete, and still actively maintained DayZ server browser and mod loader for Linux
  • KES: declarative framework and suite of third-party enhancements for sites running the Kbin protocol
  • Anti-Cheat Compatibility List: comprehensive testing of multiplayer games with anti-cheat support on Linux
  • modtui: working proof-of-concept implementation for a native Linux mod loader intended to integrate with Wine
  • wineclick: Linux vernacular method of sending virtual input events into running Wine processes via a listener

Other, more generic applications may call for stress testing numerous games and hardware under different scenarios to cover as many use cases as possible.

Your contributions go towards ongoing maintenance and development of the software and allow me to better focus on it as a priority. They are also used to acquire games and hardware when testing how an application performs under specific parameters.

Above all, I want these applications to cater to the actual needs of the user, and I am open to adding as much or as little functionality as users desire. Recurring sponsorship of the project entitles you to benefits like priority handling of bug reports and access to beta versions, and it lets you have a vested interest and active voice in the development of your preferred application. Thank you.
