Thank you for considering sponsoring my work on free and open source software. I am the developer of Rapid Photo Downloader, which I first start working on in 2007. It downloads, renames, and backs up photos and videos at high speed from memory cards, cameras, phones, and other devices.

As part of my work with Rapid Photo Downloader, I have developed the programs Show in File Manager and Hatch Gettext. These programs are useful beyond Rapid Photo Downloader itself.

I am from Aotearoa New Zealand. I completed a PhD in anthropology from the University of Minnesota in 2020, with my dissertation receiving “Best Dissertation of the Year Award” from the Peace and Justice Studies Association.

Any sponsorship you provide is especially valuable because due to a serious case of Long Covid, unfortunately I am currently unemployable. I work from home on my code.

What your sponsorship would contribute to free and open source software:

1. There are a bunch of features I have long wanted to add to Rapid Photo Downloader, a few of which are listed here.
2. It currently runs only on Linux. The vast majority of photographers use macOS and Windows. I want to port it to those platforms.
3. I want to conduct studies of how people use the program. I also want to know how photographers on other platforms use other programs to get their files off their cameras and onto the computers, including especially professional photographers like sports and news photographers. I am currently conducting a survey of Rapid Photo Downloader users to gather feedback. The feedback is truly useful, but there is nothing like carefully observing how individual users use programs as part of their workflow, and then asking them questions.
4. And finally, I want to continue to improve my other programs, like Show in File Manager.
