Is this project abandoned? #1042
Comments
I've been wondering the same thing too. The other day I noticed that their Docker images haven't been updated in 7 months, and when I checked the GitHub just now, the last commit was back in April. I even checked the developers GitHub profile and found that their last commit to their public repositories was back in April. It's a shame that the developer has seemingly abandoned this project because I really liked Statping. I really hope the someone pickups this project and fixes all of the bugs. Ironically the main problem that I have with Statping is that it keeps crashing in Synology Docker. |
If the project is abandoned then could we transfer ownership to someone active? |
I think that's something that the developer has to do, but I could be wrong. Worst case scenario someone could always just fork the project. |
@hunterlong seems to have been active on twitter/reddit during the last month, so at least he's (probably) still alive. Phew. Maybe ask him about the project on a different platform (his website also lists an email address), but try to be slightly more polite than @Revertron when they wrote this issue :b |
Even if they can add a few others to help manage the project if @hunterlong still wants to retain ownership. |
There's a link to a slack page at the bottom of this list: https://slack.statping.com/ |
I've emailed hunter. The app is free on android with an in-app purchase for extra features. |
The free version doesn't provide notification so not very useful ;) |
Not yet but it's only been 5 days, let's be patient... |
Is NICE! |
Has anyone here manged a project of this scale? I'm considering forking and setting up infrastructure for a forked version but I haven't got the time to fully manage it, nor am I a software developer. Ideas? Input? |
@adamboutcher I'd be happy to participate but I don't know go at all. We'd definitely need someone who actually understands the code ^^ |
Can you guys let me know if you're going to fork it? I'm not a developer, but I'd happily use your fork. |
I'll try and figure out the infrastructure and setup first, I'll post the project fork here. If I'm going to do it, I want to be able to do an entire drop in replacement to statping including containers etc. |
this fork seems somewhat active but is missing a lot of upstream changes (don't know if that's a good thing or not considering how buggy the current version seems to be) i don't think there's a lof of infrastructure needed to get started. should be as simple as editing the image names in the github workflows and maybe push some old tags manually. (as I've said, I don't know go, but I know gha and docker enough to do that ^^) edit: alternatively, we could also consider rewriting/creating an entirely different project, unrelated to statping. I understand that statping already has a lot of functionality and a lot of effort has gone into it, however I can't really contribute any actual code here. I've been thinking about creating my own status page project in python anyway, but I don't know how far I'd get. If anyone is interested in starting something, @ me :) |
@jemand771: https://github.com/louislam/uptime-kuma is written in JavaScript (Vue 3) and SCSS |
So I've forked to here - https://github.com/statping-ng/statping-ng, I've also copied the wiki over. I'm slowly working through the documentation to change the name to statping-ng. My next step once the rename is done, is to start a build process. If anyone has experience and would like to join the management of this, then please come and join in. If @hunterlong eventually picks this project back up then we can look at upstreaming any development. |
@adamboutcher Looks like your fork still has issues disabled - can you enable them in your repo settings so we can continue any discussion about statping-ng there? |
@jemand771 issues are now enabled, its now at https://github.com/statping-ng/statping-ng. We could continue any discussions here - statping-ng#2 |
This issue hasn't had any updates in a while. If this is still a problem, please create a new issue. |
@adamboutcher Thank you so much for keeping this project alive! It might be worth pinning this issue on this repository so that newcomers can be redirected to the new project |
we can't pin this issue in this repository as it's not ours - that's the whole reason statping-ng exists as a seperate fork |
Statping is broken AF. I setup it up according to instructions, setup a new MySQL schema, added all of my services, setup and validated Slack webhook notifications, setup a Pushover account, started using it. Then it crashes. White page with no logs. Restart the systemd service, am now greeted with a Statping setup page and EVERYTHING IS GONE. Restoring from a database backup doesn't get the site working again. WASTE OF TIME. AVOID THIS ONE! It was good in 2020 and now it's literally a waste of time. |
Try statping-ng however ensure you disable cdn as there's currently an issue with the cdn files. |

I've moved to Uptime-Kuma, it has some interesting features and works flawlessly. |
Describe the bug
