Goal

The goal of this project is to create a RTS in a "Dune Universe" that is much more than simply click and destroy.

This wiki page holds a lot of ideas that may or may not end up in the final game.

Goal of the game

Conquer Dune and become Emperor:

Conquer Dune

The (gigantic) map has several 'check points'. Capture those points and you will take control over a region. Control all regions and you control the world.

Become Emperor

Once you control Dune and thus control the Spice you can defy the Emperor and defeat him. Of course, defeating this faction can/should be possible in various ways. Either through sheer battles or by (for instance) blackmailing the Guild so that the Emperor is unable to send his troops in the first place.

Sub-goals

The main goals end the game, but throughout the game (which should take quite a while) you have multiple sub-goals which you may (or may not) want to achieve.

Deliver quota's of spice to the Spacing Guild

The spice must flow. Quota's are set for a time period, and increase over time (forcing you to mine more and more spice). Not meeting the quota will negatively impact your relationship with the Spacing Guild and might give the Emperor incentives to plot against you (ie, send troops to your bases)

Deliver water to the Fremen

The Fremen want to terraform the planet and need water to do so, water is more valuable than spice (to them). Share water and your tribe might become one with theirs.

Parties / Factions

"Your house here"

You will be battling other factions on the planet by default. The "house name" is not really of importance (you can name yourself). The characteristics of your house are yours to control.

Inhabitants of Dune (Fremen, Sandworms)

Fremen dream:

"... we shall change the face of Arrakis ... We shall make a homeworld of Arrakis—with melting lenses at the poles, with lakes in the temperate zones, and only the deep desert for the maker and his spice."

Befriend Fremen and you might benefit from them:

  • UPGRADE ABILITY: learn stilsuit technology which reduces water drain by your troops (more troops for same amount of water production)
  • Fremen may help you reduce the amount of attacks by worms at your Harvesters
  • You may find a way to get direct contact with the Spacing Guild

CHOAM

  • Gives "credits" for spice melange
  • Gives access to production of unit types

Spacing Guild

Main concern: "The Spice must flow" (in order to keep their monopoly on faster-than-light space travel)

  • Controls any transportation from/to Dune.

  • Requires periodically amounts of spice melange to function

  • Sardaukar (The Emperor)

  • Bene Gesserit (unsure if this should play any role at all)

Specials

Learn of the water of life

Gives: ability to destroy spice production Cons: TBD

Nuclear Missile(s)

Gives: Massive destruction of bases, terrain (mountains?) Cons: Nuclear fall-out?
