user friendship system

So I thought of a feature a while back, like a friendship thing, where users can request each others friendship and with a handshake-system agree to it, and then you would have some steam-like features, like seeing what they are currently watching, being able to join in, maybe chat, that sort of thing. I think users should be able to show themselves as offline though, to hide their activity, just like on steam.
Any thoughts?

That seems cool.

But for a self hosting app, I don't really see the point, if you use it on a small server.

I can see the point, if you want to share video with your friends or with other people. Like in some streaming website, you have the possibility to chat with people.

I think it would be nice if this feature will be done, to have an option, to enable/disable it.

It is a "nice to have" feature, but I agree with @sylflo on the fact that Streama is often used in such small user groups that this is borderline unnecessary and will be most likely unused by most users
