It appears that currently the flycheck-ycmd checker is enabled for Python mode. Ycmd will not provide any diagnostics for Python (right now, at least) so using it for flycheck is not terribly useful. It might be best to disable flycheck-ycmd in python-mode by default. You can do this e.g. with flycheck-disabled-checkers.
