When using normal vim, visual line selecting doesn't seem to actually grab the very last new line character. But in spacemacs, using visual line does seem to grab the very last newline in the selection, causing emmet to act wacky.

Can anyone explain to me why this is happening? I gotta get spacemacs to act more like vim. I made a video just to explain it clearly. All I need to know is why it works like that so I can figure out how to change it.
