Hey everyone, I created a custom integration for Home Assistant. It can be installed via HACS or manually by copying into custom_components. The repository can be found at https://github.com/Crewski/njsPC-HA. Once you have it added to HACS and have restarted Home Assistant, you can add it as an integration called njsPC-HA. You just need to put in the IP address of your njsPC instance. The port defaults to 4200. There is no need to enable MQTT as it communicates via RESTapi and socketio. I know there is work for the MQTT discovery happening, but I wanted to learn something new.

I think I have most things working. It is successfully working with my limited equipment (Aquarite SWG, Hayward VS Pump, Colorlogic lights). Please let me know if you have issues with other equipment. I do know that I haven't added Filters into it yet, I don't know how valves operate since I don't have any in my setup.

Two things of note:

1. Selecting a light theme is done as an effect of a light.
   
2. Heaters are controlled by preset mode. The HVAC mode will always be AUTO. This is because heaters can have many different operating modes like "solar preferred" or "heatpump only" that don't match up with home assistant.

This is great! Just installed the integration.

I have all Pentair equipment in a shared body setup (pool with spillover spa) Pentair IC40 Salt Cell, MasterTemp Heater, Intelliflo Pump, Air and Water Temp, Intellibrite lights. When I first installed integration only 12 entities were discovered (none of the climate/heater entities, and none of the lights). I then went to nodejs dashpanel and toggled all my devices through the web dashpanel, rebooted home assistant and I picked up another 5 entities. Sharing this for the benefit of future users of this integration.

I have a couple of discussion points/issues:

1. Since I have a spillover spa, the 95 max degrees was not high enough. I know very little about coding, but see that the climate.py had this value hard coded. I edited my local copy to raise this to our typical max of 100. Ideally it would be nice to have separate max and min temperatures for the spa vs the pool. Not sure if this is possible.
2. With the spillover spa, there is a feature in the NJSPC dashpanel called spillway. Ideally this would just need to be a switch in home assistant. Is there any way to add this?
3. IC40 Salt Cell in NJSPC dashpanel there is a separate salt setpoint for pool mode vs spa mode. For me salt is 100% when in pool mode but only 5 or 10% when I have it running in spa mode. Right now when this gets pulled into homeassistant it is only the salt setpoint for the pool. Wondering if the labeling and ability to have two separate setpoints is possible.

@seaverd thanks for the feedback, that's exactly what I need since I don't have those device and bodies. If you don't mind, would you share what your /state/all call looks like. You can either use something like postman or just the browser to make a GET request to http://:4200/state/all. This will give me something to start with. I'll also try to figure out why some entities weren't added at first.

The other helpful thing is to see what the calls are when you are toggling things between pool and spa mode. If you open the developer tools in Chrome/Edge, you should see them when you are making changes in dashPanel. It'll look like this:

@seaverd I went ahead and made some changes to hopefully cover your issues. There is a beta release out (v0.3.1-beta4). In HACS if you don't have beta releases selected, go to the njsPC-HA integration and click the 3 dots in the top right. Then click Redownload. A popup will appear where you can select beta releases. Download v0.3.1-beta4 and restart home assistant. Let me know if this takes care of things, especially the spillway since I couldn't recreate that in my fake setup I tried to make.

Thanks for the changes! Only thing I noticed is pool happened to be in spillway mode when I installed the beta integration and rebooted. When HA came back up it did not show pool as being in spillway mode. I toggled spillway mode so that turned it off and then toggled it on and it came on. Has stayed in sync sense. Not sure if that is expected or how it gets its initial value/status on a reboot.

I'm not sure why it didn't sync up initially. It's looking for the "isOn" attribute obtained from the /state/all call. If it can't find it, it defaults to off. You didn't happen to reboot njsPC prior and not change the spillway yet, did you? I noticed that issue with I was messing with lights of it not having the "isOn" attribute until it changed, which is why I added the try/except block to default to off.

In this case, self._circuit is really the feature.

v0.3.2 has been released. The two changes are:

1. If there is only one heater installed, the climate entity will use the HVAC modes of OFF and HEAT. If there are more than 1 and you end up with options like "solar prefered", then the HVAC will always be AUTO and you will need to use the presets to select the mode. This is determined by a call to /config/body/{id}/heatModes.
2. Entities will go unavailable when connection is lost to njsPC. It'll try to reconnect every 10 seconds. Entities become available again upon reconnection.

@lockeandev I added a flow sensor if available. I have a Hayward VS that doesn't report flow, and I wasn't able to emulate one so hopefully it works. It should check to see if a "flow" value is available and if so add it. This is version 0.3.5.

How are lights supposed to work? I have light entities for my light circuits but I don't see anywhere to adjust the theme? Your screen shot above shows the effect drop-down but I don't see that on any of my light entities. I have pentair microbrites and pentair magic stream LEDs.

There will be a currentOutput field for the chlorinator. This will be the actual percentage output. The targetOutput is what you want it to be. Of the circuit (pool or spa) is off or the chlor has comms issues there will be a difference in target vs current output.

For a bit of background, the salt cell only ever outputs 0% or 100% if you were to measure it with a volt meter. When you set it to 50% it will be on for 2.5 mins and then off for 2.5 mins. It is a common misconception that the salt cell changes the strength of the chemical reaction but it is really a % of time calculation.

I have it setup where a pool has temp limits of 70-95 and a spa is 90-104. Do you have your pool higher than 95? Or did it not properly capture that you have a spa?

This was just to put some sensible limits in place, but if it isn't working right we can hard code values that would cover both pool and spa, so 70-104 for every climate.

I am cross-posting this from the poolController discussion so please forgive me if you see it in both places.

I have an Easytouch 2 4 controller and I am running version 7.7.0 of the poolController. I am also running Home Assistant and using the njsPC-HA integration to bring and control the pool from Home Assistant. Everything has been working flawlessly for months.

A couple of days ago, for the first time, I tried to turn on the pool heater from Home Assistant. I am using the climate.pool_heater entity in njsPC-HA. I can change the heater temperature setpoint from HA without any problem and the change is reflected correctly on the Easytouch controller.

However, when I try to turn the heater on from HA, it immediately changes back to off. In the poolControllerDashboard web interface, the heater is displayed as a virtual circuit but I cannot turn it on or off. The heater does appear under heaters in the Dashboard and as a virtual circuit.

Can you kindly let me know what I need to do in order to use the heater via the dashboard and hopefully HA? I can control it from the Easytouch controller, but I'd really like to be able to use the poolController instead of the Easytouch.

This is great news! I did not realize it's available through HACS. The instructions liked to above state to go to the Home Assistant Add-on Store (HASSIO). I was confused because there are add-ons available through the HA supervisor if you're running HAOS, or you manually installed the supervisor.

The Home Assistant Community Store (HACS) is available regardless of the HA installation method (OS, Container, Supervised, Core).

I am running HA through a docker container, so HACS is available. I shall check it out as this seems to be a great way to install the projects!

Finally got around to trying to install this. I really only want to run dashPanel in Home Assistant. So I installed it and started it, I can access dashPanel at my HASS IP now, but when I click on the dashPanel Add-on to the HASS sidebar I get a 502 Bad Gateway error. What am I doing wrong?

Also. Going this route, I assume I wont be able to update the dash panel add-on unless @arieltools updates the folder on their repository right?

I am not familiar with the dash panel add-on to which you are referring. Per rstrouse's comment below, I know of two programs for integrating the pool controller project into HA. njsPC-HA is available through HACS and as stated below, finds the pool config. If that has been installed and HA has been restarted, there is an HA integration, also called njsPC-HA that, once installed, finds and installs the entities from the pool controller so you may view them and/or control them through HA.

Of course, you could create an HA iframe to access the dashPanel directly from HA without either of the njsPC-HA programs. That's the only way I know of to add the dashpanel to the HA sidebar. If you go this route, be sure to include the dashPanel port in the URL, 5150.

Without knowing how you created dashPanel shortcut and what has been installed, I cannot help you find the cause of your error.

As an aside, I don't use a shortcut to dashPanel in my system--I use the two njsPC-HA programs to view & control the pool equipment directly through HA. You could create a card in the HA front-end with the pool entities that interest you. e.g., pumps, chlorinators, lights, cleaners, heaters, etc. I can still browse to the dashPanel if I for some reason I want to bypass HA.

P.S., It looks like arieltools' 1 click solution is a true HA add-on. It's available only if you're running HA Supervised. I run a docker container HA installation. By definition there is no supervisor and therefore no HA add-ons available for docker installations. (There are hoops one can jump through to install supervisor, but not having a supervisor is one advantage to docker installations.) Much of the HA terminology is confusing--there are HACS integrations (and front ends), HA addons, and HA integrations. If you run a supervised system, all three are available to you. No supervisor? Only HACS integrations & front ends and HA integrations are available.

As an aside, many/most(?) HACS integrations also require an HA integration to be installed.

What does installing these as add-ons do for you? Does it just add dash panel as a tab on the home assistant UI? I'm not sure what having njs-PC on HA would do since it will not likely be installed near the outdoor control panel.

There are two separate projects here. The first is njsPC-HA which integrates the njsPC server into home assistant. This integration discovers the pool configuration and allows you to add it to your dashboards. The second is njs-pc-ha-addons which allows you to host njsPC within the Home Assistant docker shells. If you have a networked RS-485 port or are using the upcoming ScreenLogic interface then this will allow you to use it on your home server. In either case dashPanel can be hosted in Home Assistant to centralize all your home automation.

The latest integration should find the IP address automatically through SSDP discovery. If it does not then the IP address will be displayed on the startup of njsPC and have a port number of 4200. You can also see it in dashPanel if you click on the connections tab and search for it.

Since I had several instances of njsPC server running simultaneously (..testing on different machines/deployments), I guess it discovers the first available. I've since killed all but one instance, reinstalled njsPC-HA, then it discovered my preferred (only) instance.:+1:

BTW, you mentioned that dashPanel can be hosted in HA. Do you mean that effectively the njsPC-HA integration is a 'dashPanel' or that dashPanel server can also be integrated? (I would like to monitor/control my EasyTouch schedules from HA, i.e. one app, if possible.)

Have a card in the HA dashboard that indicates the current pool state and allows me to control the pool manually. Glad you're up & running (dare I say "In the swim?" Naw!). Hope the temp sensor issue isn't anything significant to get going. I've been swimming since May 1--by decree I turned on the heat & that was that. Needed to heat it again last week--unusual for us so late in the spring. The pool is still "refreshing" when you get in--around 78 degrees, but it's great for lap swimming once you get in a few hundred feet to warm up. Toasty! No need to heat the spa if the pool is 90. Nice in the evenings, I'll bet. I can handle doing laps at 87, but 90 gets to be punishing for me.

We've been in the Panhandle for 12+ years & I can't recall a time when the pool was in the 70s in June. I just hope we're not cooler than that in October (without heating the pool, of course). My wife won't even get in the pool if it's not in the mid 80s. She used to swim when it was in the mid 70s, but no more.

@Crewski Loving the integration. Feature request here unless it already exists and I just can't find it. I have a IPS flow cell with a built in dry contact switch that is connected through REM. It throws the "No Flow Detected" alarm in dashpanel. I want to use this state to send myself a notification, or perform some other automation functions but I am not sure how to access that sensor in HA.

Any ideas on how to access?

I just pushed out v0.4.11. All incoming messages are now sent to the event bus. You can listen to them on event njspc-ha_event. This way if there is something the integration is missing, you can still get access to the data to roll your own. If it's something you think should be added to the integration just let us know.

Hi. This is great. I don't see all messages being sent to the bus though. For example, when I toggle a feature on/off the data is not being picked up on the bus. Really any of the 'features' do not show. When the Circuit itself is toggled, I do see teh event but not through a feature.

I think this is an example of hte messages missed.

@Crewski is your pump connected to the Aquarite through the digital inputs connector or did you connect it through RS485 to njs-PC? Because in the OP I see RPM and Watts and I wondered how you got those, AFAIK the Aquarite have the digital inputs to select the 3 speeds plus the on/off, right?

I am about to install an Aquarite+ and a VS pump that has both digital inputs for the speed selection but it also has A/B connections for RS485, initially I planned to use the digital inputs but knowing RPM and Watts would be very useful, so maybe the RS485 connection (to njs-PC I guess) makes sense.

My pump was connected to njs-PC via Rs485 initially, which is why I was getting rpm/wattage readings. I’ve since switched to using the relay control of the pump, but that was a personal preference due to some issues I had. My advice would be to hook directly to njs-PC whenever possible. RS485 is definitely where I would start.

It's most likely a T9 equivalent. But of course they don't make it easy to compare apples to apples.

The T9 is 20g/h, the RC33 is 33g/h, so it's more like the T15 (30g/h).

@tagyoureit I forgot to link the most important part, the modbus register map for the NeoPool Control System by Sugar Valley, which is basically what the Hayward Aquarite+ is based on (it's the Sugar Valley Hidrolife). Other brands use the same board: Hidrolife, Aquascenic, Oxilife, Bionet, Hidroniser, UVScenic, Station, Brilix, Bayrol, etc.

Would be great if njs-PC could support the NeoPool. Right now I had to revert to Tasmota's NeoPool implementation, and it works fine:

I'm using M5Stack Atom Lite connected to its Tail485 addon (on the bottom). I chose this because the Atom Lite is a very good ESP32 device, I use it for other projects too, and in this case the real benefit is the Tail485 addon that integrates a 9-24V DC/DC voltage regulator, that outputs the 5V needed to power the Atom Lite. This means that no external power supply is needed when connected to an RS485 interface that also offers a power pin, like the Aquarite+ with its 12v pin. So basically you have a very small device (it's like two coins), that you can connect and power inside the Aquarite+ directly.

I added this to the wishlist (project and discussion thread). It might be quite a while before this gets added because it would be supporting a whole new protocol, but we will track it.

I just switched from njs-PC & dashPanel in a docker container to a "real" Nixie & REM CHEM setup. Really loving your integration even more than before--amazing amount of information available to HA.

Are alarm conditions from Nixie/REM CHEM available to HA with your integration? I am wondering if things like low acid tank level, pH or ORP out of range, etc. can be seen from HA.
