Extending to 3D possible?

I am using this to model a city with the buildings and no-fly zones(NFZ) which will have 3d representations, for navigating an UAV through these buildings and NFZs. Has there been any attempt to extend this to 3D? Or are there any leads in this direction? If not I would love to make an attempt at extending this to 3D
