This is easily done with Moment.js.

Instead of »Tue Oct 02 2012 16:04:23 GMT+0200 (CEST)« you then have »yesterday«. Or instead of »Sat Sep 22 2012 14:33:10 GMT+0200 (CEST)« you get »11 days ago«.
