Welcome to the wiki page of Universal Tip where we share tips and tricks to make you more productive in your daily life.
Configuring your mouse and trackpad to emit the Tip's shortcut is the first thing you should do.
We activate Tip hundreds of times a day; we should make it convenient.
My setup is:
- Configure
Cmd + F3
as the Tip's shortcut by visitingSystem Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services
and set the shortcut forTip: open tips
- Configure an extra mouse button to emit
Cmd + F3
- Configure the 3-finger touch on the track pad to emit
Cmd + F3
I use Noo.app to configure my mouse and trackpad. Disclaimer: I built Noo.app. Any other app would also work equally well.
If you find yourself perform workflows that involves a lot of key presses and mouse movement, Tip might be able to help replace those workflows.
Here are some use cases:
- Converting a number of seconds from epoch to a human-readable time
- Opening Google on the selected text -- Works with any code search system as well
- Opening the file path in IntelliJ -- Great when you are looking at an error stacktrace
- Sending the selected text to your note
❗ The shortcut doesn't work
If your shortcut doesn't include the Command key, you will need to activate it manually by:
- Selecting a text
- Clicking on
Application menu > Services > Tip: open tips
Tip is built in Seattle and Bangkok during this unprecedented time. I hope everyone stay safe, healthy, and productive
