Use cases describe object types, processes, and the needs of end users you are familiar with.

I use this single record to take a look at what is being documented and how it compares with the Darwin Core Archive for GBIF.

What does this single record represent?

Direct evidence of:

  • 6 Physical Objects
  • 2 Images
  • 4 Events (one collection, 3 identification)

Indirect evidence of:

  • 1 or more Physical Objects (destroyed sample(s) for molecular research)
  • 1 or more Organisms (unclear if it has been determined that these teeth are indeed all identified as a single taxon)
  • 1 or more Occurrences (dependent upon the actual number of “organisms”)
  • 1 or more Datasets (taxonomy, higher geography)
  • 2 or more Events (imaging, sampling - perhaps more than once)

What have I missed?

Currently, all of this is being smooshed into https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/1638514387 which means information is lost and interpretation is muddied with direct evidence.
