This is a key feature of Vimium:

  • f switches to hint mode, opening results in the same tab
  • F switches to hint mode, opening the results in a new tab

In Vimari this is implemented as CTRL-f

The reason for not implementing the 'opens results in a new tab' is that a security feature of Safari is that if an extension opens a new tab, that tab will not run the extension. This makes 'open in a new tab' very problematic.
