This manual describes what the clock administrator has to know and what to tell the other participants. The manual is valid for both cloud- and local version.

Options to run the clock

The clock application consists of two parts:

  • The server that runs in the cloud and is always available, or can be run locally, see separate documentation Installation.
  • The client which is the user interface that runs in your browser.

Demo clock

The cloud application has a Demo clock for demonstration and testing purposes.

Note the following about the Demo clock:

  • You cannot change the administrator password.
  • You cannot set a user password.
  • Anyone can administer this clock.
  • Never use it for real purposes.

Setting up a new clock

You can create a new clock for a specific meeting.

  1. First, make sure that you have entered your preferred username in the Setting page and saved it.
  2. Go to the Clock administration page.
  3. Clock on Create New. You get a new clock with a random name and passwords.
  4. Change clock name to the meeting name or some other appropriate name.
  5. Its also recommended that you change the clocks administrator password.
  6. You should set a user password for starting and stopping clock. A blank password lets anybody stop the clock. If you leave this blank, anyone can start and stop the clock.
  7. Change the other settings of choice.
  8. Klick Save. The clock will now be activated on the server.

Now your personal settings are automatically updated with your new clock name and clock password, so it automatically becomes the selected clock for you, which means that you will be the an administrator of the new clock.

Once you have created a new a clock, its name is reserved. If somebody else tries to register a clock with the same name to steal it, such registration is ignored.

NOTE: Clocks may disappear after some time of inactivity. Then you have to re-create the clock again.

Display modes

If you display the clock on a large screen in the hall, it is possible to maximize the size of the displayed time. You do this in Settings by checking the Display maximised checkbox and save. This removes the More info button and the space reserved for showing clock properties.

From version 3, the clock can be displayed with digits (digital mode) or as a Swiss Railway Clock (analoge mode).

NOTE that this is a local setting affecting only the clock in the current web browser that you run. Other users using the same clock name will not be affected. Running the clock in another web browser will not be affected.

Language of user interface

The default language of the user interface is determined by the browsers request language preferences. Each user can override this by selecting another language in the start page.

Let other users access the clock

Before the clock is started, the clock-page also displays a QR-code containing a link to the application. The link works both for cloud- and local server.

After the application has loaded in the user's browser, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Settings page and select the appropriate clock name in the dropdown list.
  2. Optionally enter your name or your stations name. It must be unique, no users with same name and different IP-adresses are permitted.
  3. Optionally enter a password.
    1. If it is the user password it gives the user the right to stop and start the clock for some reason.
    2. If it is the administrator password, the user can also administer the clock settings.
    3. If no password is entered, the user still can see the clock, but not perform any action.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Go to the Clock page.
  6. Click on Show more and verify that it is the correct clock name your are displaying.

NOTE that all items on the Settings page is stored locally in your browsers local storage to remember your settings when you start the app the next time. NO registration data is stored on the server.

Let other apps access the clock

Also users that have other apps that uses the API must know at least the clock name. If you also give them the user password, the other app will also be able to stop and start the clock.

Stopping and starting clock during game

Sometimes something happens that request the clock to be stopped. All users that register their (or their stations) name and the user password (decided by the administrator) can stop the clock if they select a reason for it. The clock will display who stopped the clock and why.

When the problem is fixed, only the user that requested the stop or the administrator can resume clock ticking.

Managing pauses

The clock can be configured to automatically stop at a specific real time displaying a reason for stopping. This is practical for example when a game continues after lunch. In the Clock administration page do the following:

  1. Enter a real time to pause.
  2. Select a reason for pause.
  3. Enter the estimated real time when you expect to resume the game.
  4. Optionally select if the clock should show real time during pause. This does not affect the game time, but everyone sees when to resume.
  5. Click Apply.

EXAMPLE Lunch break: Pause time is 12:00 when the lunch start. The reason is 'lunch' The estimated time to resume is 13:00.

When you enter an estimated time to resume, the expected real end time of the game will include the pause.

NOTE: Only the administrator can resume the game time after a pause.
