Beaker Update #1546
Beaker Update #1546
Conversation
Should not a Bluespace item require Bluespace research? |
Good point. That could make it harder to get. |
I want my R&D NOREACT beaker, could you make that too |
R&D NOREACT beaker? Fuck yes, coding that and adding it to the pull request right now. |
…als you DON'T want to blow up in your face. Holds 50 units.
Actually the bomb cap stops it. |

Metal and plasma is too easy to come by. This will be super OP. |
For someone who's new here: what's the bomb cap? |
the bomb cap is a configuration option, by default (and what /tg/ servers use) is 3,7,14 |
It turns out you can reach the bomb cap with two large beakers. According to what was said on github. This is only tested for potassium water. I mean no one ever uses nitro. |
You don't hit the bombcap with 2 large beakers for Potas + Water. You get a (0,2,5) explosion. Long story short gameplay wise the only reaction this actually matters on is Potassium and Water (and lol nitoglycerin but stop jokin). You can already flood the station with foam with two large beaker grenades. Polysmoke will kill with 2x50 beakers, etc. The question you have to ask yourself is this: Do you want maxcap explosions to be more readily available in the latgame? My opinion: Throw some diamonds on dat research cost -Edit- With plasma splashing actually creating ATMOS plasma, might want to look into what happens when you splash 1000 units of plasma onto the station |
…ver. Increased the research reqs on Bluespace beaker to Bluespace 2 Materials 4.
You now need Materials 4 to get Bluespace Beakers, so some mining is required now. |
You can get materials 4 without mining |
Unless you make it have loads of tech requirements it's going to be 15-20 minutes in at most, because R&D is supereasy to do. |
It should be on par with BoHs by the difficulty of researching |
So, should I add 500 Diamond to the production cost, OR should I reduce the storage to 300 reagent units? |
Both, actually. Though maybe just tiny amounts of diamond, because it's a beaker. |
…holding capabilities to 300 units.
Alright, it can only hold 300 unit now, and takes diamonds. |

500
nope nope nope
This makes extremely huge foam spills possible to the point where it can severely lag servers. pete and me balanced the foam values a long while ago with a maximum transfer of 100 in mind.
Also makes for far too strong potassium/water explosions probably rendering nitroglycerin worthless.
edit: tested the foam aspect of it, it's not that bad any more actually since there was some changes to how dirt/radium glow is spread. with 300/300 grenades it should be fine.
It can still hold 500. |
Alright, i fixed the issue. |
Adds Bluespace Beakers, which are magical beakers that can be manufactured in Research and Development, for Metal Plasma, and a small amount of Diamond. It requires level 6 Materials research, and Level 2 Bluespace research. It can hold up to 300 units, a significant investment for the chemist willing to part with his sheets of plasma for the upgraded beakers.
Adds Cryostasis Beakers, which are beakers that can be used to prevent reactions between chemicals. It can be produced in Research and Development, for metal. It requires level 2 Materials research. It can hold up to 50 units, and is useful for those handling volatile chemicals.
