About The Pull Request

Dragging prone mobs (resting, knocked down, stunned, dead, in crit, etc) that aren't buckled to anything slows you down.

You can fireman carry by aggressive grabbing then click dragging onto yourself. This causes a slight speed penalty that is lower than dragging.

Why It's Good For The Game

Prevents the classic "stun and beat the shit out of while zipping off" which is obnoxious and I don't think anybody likes besides the people who do it.
Makes it so if you feel like being a cunt you can rest while being arrested to make you a pain to take back.
Makes it harder to steal bodies and move away before anybody can properly react, but makes dragging bodies riskier at the same time
Fireman carrying adds an element of risk reward, it takes a little while of standing still to pick them up and also slows you down slightly. More useful to move someone a long distance out of a relatively safe area than a quick pull away.

A concern - this (unintentionally?) nerfs the Pacifist quirk, because pacifists can't grab aggressively and therefore can't fireman carry. This was also a problem with pacifists doing surgery and was resolved by allowing someone to be placed on a table more slowly from Help intent. Maybe it's possible to do something similar here?

Do you have screenshots of someone being carried?

This is provisionally approved, but we will test merge for feedback.

Allow me to outline the goal here.

I want to kill the meta that I have seen of rushing in, stunning someone in a group and then dragging them into maint at high speed (sometimes with stims, sometimes without and just relying on superior map knowledge) to be killed at your leisure.

I still want to allow dragging people, but you suffer a slowdown and you can negate that (for rescue and antagonist needs) by using the fireman carry, which takes a little while to do.

The outcome is hopefully that it will be much harder to ambush groups of people, requiring more thought as a solo antagonist about how you want to eliminate a target and how to get them alone.

We may need to look at moveable chairs/rollerbeds at a slightly later date, if they prove to become the new meta, but I suspect their bulky/obvious nature will render that unnecessary.

A second method was proposed where you couldn't drag people at all, until you did a fireman carry on them (I.E no slowdown, but it takes time to grab mobs) if you'd like to see this tested, please drop a thumbs up on this comment

I don't think that's a good idea but it's so crazy I want to see it tested at the very least.

A change like that would make it impossible to grab people floating in space, or being pushed around by air flow

Just seems like a worse option that only fixes the problem halfway for no good reason

@Eaglendia

I'm in support of testing the change, but do you not believe that players with "superior map knowledge" should be rewarded for leveraging that over those opposing them?

Won't this make arresting people who have friends much harder? Sec uses stunning and dragging too, y'know.

Honestly, even if this does create issues, this is so badly needed that it's worth trying to figure out how to fix the damage it might cause rather than reverting it if things go south

@harmonyn

harmonyn commented May 27, 2019

because of what @ATH1909 said, it is bad/obnoxious enough that we have graytide trying to interfere with arrests, this will make it that much easier for them to do so

in general it should not be made easier to be a cunt

@Eaglendia yes, but not in this instance

@yoyobatty your comment was functionally equivalent to a thumbsup/down, I supress them

A security officer can take a few seconds to aggressive grab and carry the arrested perp if they're being uncooperative, you have them cuffed, they can't really stop you.

More importantly, if you do so, it should be much harder for a greytider to grab a perp off you.

In exchange for changing the Meta. It breaks the functionality of some side antagonists.

Not a good thing.

My other concern is that the Fireman carry also comes with a slowdown nerf. To me, that just makes it quite useless as a feature for all that waiting. This attempt to bolster the Rollerbed will not bode so well. Because I fear Medical-Doctors won't be the ones using them.

Edit: Also fluke ops are gonna have to figure out a new way to win, huh.

Edit 2: Nevermind lmfao just blow up grav gen at roundstart.

Remove secway. Add security prisoner transport.

A) which side antagonists

B) since when has dragging people been nukeops meta?

@optimumtact
Copy link

@necromanceranne that is something that could be looked at, roller beds or office chairs can stand in for that right now if people feel it's necessary.

It actually is well used by ops. Get adrenals and cqc and rush the captain down with an emag, and you just knock him out, and zoom on out into space again. It's the cornerstone of the blitz strategy.

In general securing the disk holders body on the ship was very very common.

@optimumtact

Hmm, I think I have seen that a few times, but more usually it's a warops dec.

I don't think it's a huge loss that that strategy won't be as viable. Although there's nothing saying nukeops can't grab a rollerbed

Hell, even war ops will do it, especially if the captain is in a fortified location/has allies.

Nukies have so much mass stopping power it will hardly be the end of the world. Maybe the carbine ans grenadier belt will see more use for clearing rooms as a result.

Tested fireman carrying. Fireman carrying someone who is buckled to a roller bed fills your hand but doesn't actually pick them up.

When someone unbuckles from you when you are carrying them, your hand does not become free.

But this egg is coming out half baked when it involves the simple mob antagonists.
