Emagging the communications console now lets you purchase dangerous shuttles. Moves some to this system (including Disco Inferno and the Oh, Hi Daniel) #62056
Conversation
oh hi, daniel, hell yeah |
What about the Arena? It's horrid to deal with. |
I genuinely thought this was already a thing. |
bro you would see it more often if it was emag and not kill bubblegum |
I know right? I could've sworn I saw a PR about that a couple of months ago. |
I think hi daniel and disco inferno were removed for good reasons and should not be coming back, anyone who has any intention of surviving the round is going to stack into the escape pods as boarding these shuttles is essentially a death sentence 9 times out of 10 It's a survival bottleneck you can't prepare for and only one person in the entire crew can exploit and/or survive, which is what usually happens when the guy in the CE hardsuit is the only person left standing for the tenth time in a row |
then take a pod, as you yourself suggested |
Can't speak for the Daniel, but the Disco Inferno removal was my request and merge, under the assumption that this PR was going to come. Being a "survival bottleneck" is fine by me since 1. the person doing it is an antagonist, 2. pods are an option, though with their own potential for chaos. Plus, this is all in the last three minutes of the round, where I think we can get away with some mayhem. |
Oh Hi Daniel isn't dangerous |
The purest soul there can be. Grounds to beat your fellow spaceman into a pulp because he shoved you over a single tile. |
I hate when this argument is brought up because it's the perfect defense for shuttle grief, which we do not allow because people appreciate being able to end a round on a good note instead of an abrupt "and then a bomb went off and everyone died" |
We don't allow shuttle grief from non-antagonists, but when we're talking about antagonistic behavior, I think it's a reasonable thing to consider. |
What I mean is that the shuttle ride is still an important part of the round and we shouldn't make concessions just because it's about to end The jury's still out on whether stacking inside of pods can be considered an exploit but not being able to target specific people because you have 20 mobs on the same tile does not make for interesting gameplay and is not something we should be encouraging people to do Between the two Daniel is the absolute worst since for disco inferno at least if you don't want to risk it you can go to the separate section away from the dance floor |
disco inferno, my beloved... |
Oh dear gods don't readd Daniel this is a mistake |
OH HI DANIEL IS BACK BABY WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO |
Coward |
If it helps, I don't think it's an exploit, though I do see the hesitation in targeting specific people in pods. |
Boring. Half the fun of the GCM is that its expensive and you have to actively work and save up to buy it. I get that people die from it not expecting it to be so huge but beyond that the shuttle itself is pretty safe. Maybe an extra warning at like the 1 or 2 minute mark for people not expecting it but even then its not as if you have ZERO chance to try and run. Moving it behind an emag and making it cheaper just makes it a large shuttle. Would rather see its price raised so that pretty much the whole crew has to agree to work towards it than have it literally cheapened. |
Make the GCM require an emagging and cost, like, 30K-50K, but don't give it an extra warning- as you said, half the fun is in people dying from not expecting it to be so big. |
I meant half the fun was working towards making enough cash to buy it with that being the hurdle to buy it and the whole crew pitching in. I think its funny that people die from not expecting its size but I find the idea of someone being told this is big then underestimating just how big it is then dying even funnier. |
Fair enough. Still think that the cost should be more because that's part of the fun. |
I don't know what Oracle Station is sorry |
Delaying so I can make it distinct what shuttles are emag-only, just like the Holodeck. |
Done, emag shuttles now have a distinct color and notice before buying. Also, after talking with some admins (specifically Shaps), if non-antags buying grief shuttles becomes a large scale enough issue that administration can't keep up, then I'll make a PR to limit this to antag datums/hijack speed/something similar. |
Perhaps these shuttles could require additional TC to be shoved into the console after it's been emaged? It would soft-lock it behind traitors preplanning the purchase, instead of sec finding an emag and buying whatever the cargo budget allows. This would also encourage cooperation between traitors for the real nasty tactics of buying a bomb mid flight on the Ol' danny boy. |
Can we put lux shuttle behind this too, in its current (indestructible) state, the lux shuttle is nigh impossible to hijack unless you get really lucky. |
just buy the money bag |
…ngerous shuttles. Moves some to this system (including Disco Inferno and the Oh, Hi Daniel) (tgstation#1145) * Emagging the communications console now lets you purchase dangerous shuttles. Moves some to this system (including Disco Inferno and the Oh, Hi Daniel) (tgstation#62056) Emagging the shuttle will now let you buy dangerous shuttles (anything marked emag_only). This includes: Disco Inferno (which returns, at 10,000 credits) Oh, Hi Daniel (which returns, at 10,000 credits) Hyperfractal Gigashuttle (which has been moved over, and now costs 10,000 credits) Grand Corporate Monastery (which has been moved over, and now costs 18,000 credits) Purchasing a shuttle while it's emagged will censor your name. Adding the capability for emag shuttles allows for some fun design space. Previously, shuttles like the Disco Inferno and Oh, Hi Daniel were removed for being grief messes, but now that an antagonist is (in most cases) required to purchase, this now becomes an act of in-game chaos, rather than just grief. This can also help administrative efforts. Buying grief shuttles presently just makes you valid to the crew, which is tough considering the people who buy this are the ones in command. Now, buying grief shuttles not only requires an emag (which a basic griefer cannot get), but can now be deemed as a traitorous act. * Emagging the communications console now lets you purchase dangerous shuttles. Why It's Good For The Game
