The powered hammer uses energy (Forge Energy (FE) or Redstone Flux (RF)) instead of its own durability, however once it's run out of energy it will instead start using its durability. It can be upgraded to improve different aspects of the hammer using the respective upgrade items:

  • Size (2)[10]: Increases the max mining area
  • Speed (3)[5]: Increases the mining speed
  • Attack (3)[5]: Increases the attack damage
  • Harvest (1)[20]: Increases the mining level (base level is iron, so this upgrades it to diamond)
  • Capacity (4)[5]: Increases the max energy storage

The numbers in brackets () are the max number of upgrades you can apply of that type.

The numbers in square brackets [] are the experience multipliers used when applying the upgrade (see below).

To upgrade the hammer, simply combine it with the hammer in an anvil. The experience required for each is calculated as follows:

XP Required = New number of upgrade applied * Upgrade multiplier

So for example, if I have a hammer that already has 1 Speed upgrade, the experience cost to add another is:

2 * 5 = 10 levels

If you have at least one Size upgrade, then you can change the dig area size to larger than the default 3x3. Each upgrade will increase the radius by 1, so 1 upgrade will allow you to mine 5x5 and 2 will allow 7x7. Simply Shift + Right Click the hammer to change through the available dig sizes.
