The master vs. gh-pages branch has long been a complicated thing for people to figure out and switch between. GitHub pages now supports being built from a /docs subfolder in a master branch. Any thoughts on refactoring the folders in the master branch into something like /code and gh-pages in /docs ?

👍

I think this would be a useful change, especially for people new to git/GitHub. (FWIW, I consider myself an intermediate-level gitter/GitHubber and still have trouble/confusion with gh-pages branches sometimes.)

seems good. If you do it, please consider making the changes to the
template repo that is the base commits for many of the newer thw chapters
(but not berkeley or wisconsin): https://github.com/thehackerwithin/template
