Explanation of terms in schedule

  • Chapter outline: An outline for a proposed chapter (template TBD issue #55)

  • First draft: Your chapter(s) first draft is going to be what you have completed by the deadline, and the quality and future are determined during the first draft editorial phase. The time up to and beyond this editorial phase includes back and forth with writers and editors, where needed. All community is included in discussion toward editorial decision of the fate of each first draft chapter.

  • Interviews: This is the gathering of stories of "why this practice is followed" that are included at the end or part of a chapter. These are informed by the draft chapters and generated by direct or email interviews and/or personal narratives from open source practitioners.

  • First drafts returned to authors: The editors will be working for a few months with the chapters, giving attention to the ones needing it the most, deciding which chapters are going to make the 2.0 release, and working with writers in a back and forth where the editors are holding the pen for the content, that is, are the ones responsible for changes made to content during that time. Chapter drafts will be returned to writers when they are finished by the editing team, with a fixed deadline of all chapter drafts returned by this date.

  • Final chapters and interview transcripts due: These are the final words of the writers and interviewers.

  • Final content freeze: The ending of a month when the editing team finishes working the content into the final guide.

  • Guidebook construction and marketing preparation: A range of activities that include staging the guide on the website, preparing printable PDFs, release announcement writing, social media prepared, and so forth.
