I am not an expert! I have tried to make this document as accurate as possible but there may still be inaccuracies, I have cited sources where possible. If you think I have made an error please open an issue on the github repo with what I have done wrong

NOAA 18
APT (Automatic Picture Transmission)
DSB (Direct Sounder Broadcast)
AVHRR/3 (Advanced very-high-resolution radiometer)
HIRS/4 (High resolution Infrared Radiation Sounder)
The DSB on NOAA 18 sometimes temporarly switches off, I'm not sure why this happens NOAA seems to be doing something with the APT channels, they switched seem to have AVHRR channel 1 (visible) at night causing a black image |
NOAA 15
APT (Automatic Picture Transmission)
DSB (Direct Sounder Broadcast)
AVHRR/3 (Advanced very-high-resolution radiometer)
HIRS/3 (High resolution Infrared Radiation Sounder)
The AVHRR scan motor appears to be stuck, corrupting the main image data. The MIRP (onboard computer) does not seem capable of using this data and makes an unsyncable APT signal |
