@tidebre67 If anyone out there wants to help testing, now is a good time! |
b5 is feature complete with all translations in place except for improvement
I will start translating and correcting the ja locale files.
Translating and correcting the help files will take some time.
I will ask you questions if you have any questions about the translation.

The Charset selection pull-down display frame is a little narrow.
I would appreciate it if you could make it a little wider.

@botchedcode So are you a prior IETNG user? If so you will notice the menus have been completely redesigned, but are also part of the new web apis, so we are all working with new stuff. I have not seen anything like this on Windows and one of the first tests on Linux I have done is the export messages. That all has been good, however, I have to update from the last beta. Let me do that and see what I get. The menus should be stable and I don't do anything atypical so I am very surprised by things like the tags menu. |

It's all very strange... The story in short: yesterday I had that problem (you see it in the screenshots) the hole day on my machine. This morning I tried to reproduce it on all of my private and business machines, but without success, everywhere it works as expected. Then I tried to reproduce it in the exaktly same situation as yesterday, but today it also works correctly so... hmmm..... I hope I haven't caused too much panic ;) The long story, to answer the questions: I am using several Desktop-PCs, notebooks and a virtual machine (KVM), all with Debian (Bullseye), Kubuntu 22.04 or Tuxedo OS (which is based on newest KDE neon = Kubuntu). All are using KDE desktop and with almost identical configurations and applications. ImportExportToolsNG 14b6 is in use here with a completely fresh installation of Thunderbird 115 with a new and empty profile. ImportExportToolsNG is the only add-on installed in Thunderbird. The behaviour yesterday was very weird. And now it does not longer happen, without any change on that Thunderbird installation or on the machine.... that is completely illogical. I've been using Thunderbird for what feels like centuries. And because it unfortunately still lacks the essential function of saving mails with meaningful names, ImportExportToolsNG is an absolutely indispensable necessity. As tested now, ImportExportToolsNG 14b6 works perfectly for me, only I'm not happy with the new Thunderbird. Functionally everything is perfect, it works flawlessly, but visually it is a total loss, because the colours of the system are unfortunately not respected at all and so it just looks horrible... but this is another story for another place. Greetings and thanks for all your work, |
Just one little detail in the options dialogue. I want to use a custom date format and a custom file naming. I select "Use Extended Format" and configure my custom file name with "${date_custom}". Ok so far. But then I can't edit the "Custom date" field, it is disabled: So I had to activate "Use following format", edit the "Custom date" field and switch back to "Use Extended Format". This is.... funny ;) |

Probably just a beta/development restriction, but just in case it's a bug: Using the release build of Thunderbird 115 and the 14.0.0-b6 beta of the addon I can only export 100 messages at a time, no matter how many are selected in Thunderbird's message pane. That never was a problem before, I used to use the addon to backup several thousands of mails that way on a regular basis. The issue only occurs when selecting messages in the message pane, exporting entire folders works as expected. |
@rimisuko Important note: Update : I will report back here. |
Hi @cleidigh, |
@akki42 Here is a brief status :
I will look into the function Cheers |
Thank you, @cleidigh! (BTW: function is working fine in TB102.12 with IETNG v. 12.04.) |
I apologize for the double post (not a developer and new to GITHub), I meant to leave this as a comment. b8 installed and seemed to run fine - no exhaustive testing. Thank you for your work on this project. I am using b8 for now. |
@Gambit359 |
The reference to b9 and tb (final?) are my mistake. Thank you again for your work on this project! |
Hello, |
Thank you @cleidigh for your warm welcome.
I can't find the b9 version, is it online or am I blind? I've also noticed an annoying behavior of the Options dialog when opened from any context menu (button, Tools menu, folder, message list): this dialog remains in the foreground and blocks access to the tabs. Finally, I'd like to improve the French translation (a few errors and untranslated lines). Is this possible, or is there already a dedicated translator? |
@DenB10 He's not very possessive or defensive so we can freely correct him! |
please add "import all files" in eml section, not only with ending .eml; in older versions it was possible. a big thank you! |
great! i use(d) often your great app for looking into my archives. |
@cleidigh
To make it up to you, here are the French-language files I've corrected and completed: I'll deal with the help file later. |
@DenB10 I don't understand what you found as b9, it does not exist so I am concerned what you are working with, especially for translations. |

@rohswell Finally you are the second Mac user reporting the double Tools menu entries. I think this is a Thunderbird bug and I am trying to get some input on it. Thanks for your support! |
@cleidigh A sharp rise in spam spurred me to look for a way to view a message without opening it. I found a blog post that mentioned IETNG and tried it. I didn't save the post URL and now I can't find that post again. But people were recommending your extension for previewing a message and I thought it was a great tool to fight spam. |
@rohswell This feature has always delt with a single message. Right now it breaks with more than one message selected. So two questions :
I would much appreciate your thoughts... |
@cleidigh
I'd say do what's easier. Exporting selected messages already supports multiple messages. Keep Copy to Clipboard for one message only. With multiple messages selected, the choice between greying out menus or just grabbing the first is really an issue of informing the user. I would avoid greying out/disabling menus because the user would have trouble interpreting that. Copying only the first message in selection without warning, would look like an error and might frustrate users. One solution is to copy the first message in selection, then display an alert dialog that says it copied only the first message because multiple messages are not supported for clipboard. Include a checkbox that says "Don't show me this message again." Maybe you could also display an alert if they selected multiple messages and Copy to Clipboard. Both paths provide information the user needs to complete the task. Adding "how to" information to the Help file would also be helpful. I know that's a lot of work, but it saves you time by reducing complaints. I hope this helps. |
@cleidigh |
I finally managed to deal with the French help file before going on vacation. I'm sending it to you along with the css file, which I took the liberty of modifying because it was producing white lines in dark mode in some tables. Sincerely |

v14.0.0 has finally been released!!
I would like to give everyone a big thank you for your help with this major effort.
Please download the release from the addon tab or the website.
I already have a set of items I missed or messed up. I have patches that will appear in beta shortly.
export account structure wrong
Zip folder messed - use mbox extension option and this works
selecting multiple messages for copy to clipboard does not give warning
csv export should do html to text conversion

I updated Import Export Tools NG using the update link about 10 days ago. It seemed to corrupt my TB profile. I lost the ability to drag (copy) emails directly from TB to Windows Live Mail (although I can to an external flash drive). Import mbox files was greyed out in IET NG options. I have TB 115.2.3. I did a Windows System Restore but that made no difference. I have now followed the instructions from David on Mozilla Support question 1419367 to download the beta version and now Import mbox files is available. However I still cannot drag (copy) emails directly from TB to Windows Live Mail. Instead of this working as it has done for many years & directly replicating the email in WLM, I now get a New Message form open in WLM containing a line such as imap-message://[username]%40gmail.co @imap.gmail.com/INBOX#35515 |

I have already posted a release status issue where you can get the latest beta and status:
NOTE: This requires TB beta for 115. It will probably not be able to be run on earlier versions.
For starters testing everything is fair game. I am particularly interested in feedback on the new menu structure. As soon as that settles I will localize and we can refine. Note maildir functions not wired yet. Also note menu differences :
If time allows I will try to add PDF export with index and attachments
Thanks to all in advance.
