Due to the way that things are composed together "x? x? x? x?" in the mini notation will either return all ("x x x x") or nothing ("~ ~ ~ ~"), on a cycle-by-cycle basis. The same behaviour is seen with the new [a|b|c] [a|b|c] syntax.
