Data, code, and simulation results used in:

  • von der Malsburg, T., & Angele, B. (2016). False positives and other statistical errors in standard analyses of eye movements in reading. Journal of Memory and Language, (in press).

Paper at JML: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0749596X16301553

Preprint on arXiv: https://arxiv.org/abs/1504.06896

The code for the simulation is in R/simulation.script.R. The eye-tracking data used to derive the simulation parameters are in eyetracking_data/AngeleEtAl2013.csv and eyetracking_data/MetznerEtAl2016.tsv. The simulation script runs 100 iterations of the simulation. We used a cluster computer to run many of these small simulations in parallel. Each iteration produces one file with the results of that iteration. The script R/collect_results.script.R is used to combine these results into one big data frame which is stored in simulation_results/results.Rda.

The analysis is embedded in the manuscript via Knitr, see manuscript.Rnw, but there is also a tangled version in manuscript.R. The analysis uses functions defined in R/new_etmeasures.function.R and R/compute_model_parameters.function.R. The former is also used in the simulation. A PDF of the manuscript can be compiled with using the following command: make manuscript.pdf

Please contact the authors if you want to use the code or data in this repository for your own work.
