I've just updated the PDFsam Basic to ver 4.0.3

  1. selected 2 pdf files to merge
  2. chose the folder path and filename to save as
Merges correctly - if the filename doesn't exist
creates a tmp file - if the filename chosen exists in the folder.

The temp file that gets created, when renamed as a PDF is the correct merged document.

This bug is not resolved in ver 4.0.4 as well.

Is there any error message in the log window?

No, there is no error msg in the log
I have updated to version 4.0.5 and the issue still continues.

Few other points, I'm using Windows 7, if that helps.

Could you please try running PDFsam from command line using the pdfsam.bat script in the bin subdirectory and see if there is anything there?
So the task completes 100%, the status is complete but you only see .tmp files in the folder?

Also, did you choose the overwrite if already exists checkbox ?

Did someone find a fix to this one? I have this happening as well. It creates the tmp file and then errors out and I can't open the pdf. I can rename the tmp file and it is the pdf file.

I cannot work on this unless you provide some error log or input set to reproduce the issue
