"Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'close')" error in useUppy 2.x & 3.x when running in dev mode on Next.js 12.2.5

Steps to reproduce

• Clone the example at https://github.com/mjesuele/uppy-unmount-error-repro
• yarn && yarn dev
• Navigate to https://localhost:3000/uploader
• Click "Home" at the top
• See the error message

Notes:

• Only happens on the dev server; when the project is built and run normally, there is no error and navigation works.
• The reproduction repo uses Uppy 2 because the fix for "SyntaxError: Named export 'rotation' not found" in @uppy/thumbnail-generator 3.0.0 on Next.js 12.2.5 #4052 hasn't landed in a release yet, but it also happens in Uppy 3 when I manually fix "SyntaxError: Named export 'rotation' not found" in @uppy/thumbnail-generator 3.0.0 on Next.js 12.2.5 #4052.

Expected behavior

It should navigate back to the homepage without an error.
