Categories of Observations

You can separate observations into categories. Those will be displayed as tabs when composing observations for a student.

To manage the categories, go to the main dashboard (list of classes), click on the top-left menu icon. Select the item “Categories” from the menu.

There are two predefined categories for a new installation: “Social behavior” and “Work behavior”. You are free to edit or delete these categories. The only constrain is that there must be at least one category remaining.

You can add new categories by clicking on the bottom-right button with the plus symbol. Fill up the name of the category and optionally a default content. The default content will be filled initially to every observation of that category for each student.

The order of particular categories can be changed by clicking on the up and down actions from the context menu. This is the order of categories as they are displayed in the observation composing dialog.

If a category is deleted, it will still be displayed by students where observations of that category were filled previously. A deleted category disappears from all other students.

Classes

Students are organized into classes. The list of classes is displayed on the main dashboard.

You can add a new class by clicking on the bottom-right button with the plus symbol. Fill up the class ID (e.g. “3A”), the school year when the class begins (year of the first school day), and, optionally a class description (an unofficial name of the class or any other remark e.g. “Little honey bears” or “Special education math class”).

Classes are organized by the school year into groups.

You can edit the class information, delete the whole class, or copy the class with all its students by clicking on the particular actions from the context menu.

By clicking on a class from the list the students that belong to that class will be displayed.

Students

Every student belongs to just one class. When a student advances to a new class, he must be added to the system again (you can copy the whole class from the copy action in the list of classes). This ensures that historical data of the student observations will be preserved in the system.

You can add a new student by clicking on the bottom-right button with the plus symbol. Fill up the family and given name and click the save button.

You can edit and delete a particular student from the context menu. Also, you can print all the student’s observations or save them as a PDF file.

By clicking on a student from the list the dialog to compose observations for that student opens. Here, you can write and edit student observations by the categories. You can also print an observation of the currently opened category by clicking the bottom-right print button.

For formatting the text you can use the integrated rich text editor.
