S3 storage backend support would be great.

That is addressed on the roadmap under Implement PyFilesystem for flexible video storage. In the mean time same could also be achieved with the S3 storage driver directly from docker or a filesystem implementation like s3fs-fuse.

Closing this for now to keep the issues fresh and relevant. It's on the roadmap, it's going to happen at some point.
