How to use Typie

Getting Started

Download and install Typie form here

During installation it may popup some warnings like "Unknown developer" or other stuff; Its just a way for Apple and Microsoft to make money -> it costs money to sign Typie so just ignore the warnings.

After install give it a minute to load and you ready to go. Typie is installed with a fuzzy search engine and the "WebSearch" package (pkg for short) out of the box. You can search in "global" scope or search in "pkg" scope. Every pkg is different, in "WebSearch" case you can search it from the global scope as well as from the pkg scope.

  1. As default Alt+space on windows or Ctrl+space on mac will show/hide Typie.
  2. Type inside Typie input box to search the global scope.
    • you can type system and see the "System" pkg
    • you can type google and see the various result from the "WebSearh" pkg
    • Typie automatically selects the first item that appear, use the Up, Down keys to select different items.
  3. press Tab or Enter to enter into a pkg scope;
    • for example type "ws" the WebSearch should appear first pres Tab and your in.
    • usally inside a pkg you can only search its database.

Keys:

  • Alt+space / Ctrl+space - toggle Typie (show & hide)
  • Tab - jump into selected package scope
  • Enter - jump into selected package / activate selected item
  • Backspace - gets to outer package / gets to global scope
  • Delete - removing selected item (depends on package)
  • Up/Down - change selection
  • Right - change action (only works when there is multi action available)
