  • Device: Bacon
  • Channel: Devel
  • Build: r104

Steps to reproduce

  1. Connect to wifi
  2. Use the phone for a while, including it being idle for shorter or longer periods
  3. Open e.g. Webbrowser, Dekko or OpenStore
  4. Phone acts as if it is not connected

Expected behavoir

Network access

Actual behavior

Webbrowser throws "Network error", OpenStore doesn't load content and Dekko doesn't load e-mails. In addition, e-mail notifications cease.
I usually have to toggle Airplane mode one or more times or keep reloading webbrowser tabs or restarting apps to make it work.
OTA updates is another example where sometimes airplane mode toggle helps, but more often I need to reboot the device before the daily update will get fetched.
All the time, the indicator network shows an active wifi connection

Logfiles and additional information

I will be happy to provide log files if needed, just let me know which and where to find them.

Thanks for reporting this! Here's how to gather logs: https://docs.ubports.com/en/latest/contribute/bugreporting.html#getting-logs

Additionally the logs of the applications that have problems connecting would be interesting.

UTdmesg.txt
UTlogcat.txt
Pastebin:

Dekko
Webbrowser

I will have to come back with new log files when the problem reoccurs, which is usually several times per day.

When did this behavior first appear?

Oh, can't really remember. May have been there since day 1 with my OPO. I know that it has never fetched new OTA updates automatically (while on Wifi), but early on I don't think I had to reboot the phone in order for it to download.
I have had occasional "Network error" in the webbrowser, G+, FB etc., but didn't think of it that much until 3-4 weeks ago, so it might be more regular problems since then.

This issue mostly is more subtile now. While I still get "Network error" once in a while, the more common problem is that notifications stop coming in, look for updates in system settings gives a spinning progress wheel instead of downloading the newset devel update and sometimes also fetching e-mails or Telegram messages just won't happen with no error message. Toggling airplane mode usually fixes the issue.

It is kind of "sneaky", because I won't notice directly when it stops.

I can confirm the spinning wheel for updates also sometimes happens to me on FP2, N5, E5... Maybe it is not device-specific. But are you sure its loss of connection? It shows full WiFi at this moment, or full network, for example.

How can I determine that it is loss of connection or just some apps believing that there is no connection?

I have the same issue with Krillin. I noticed it about three weeks ago, long after the latest OTA update.

The notification area shows itself as connected to WIFI but the browser and other apps that require internet behave as they would in airplane mode. Turning on and off flight mode restores the expected behaviour. I have to do this three times a day on average.

What doesn't work is disabling and re-enabling WiFi. It has to be flight mode on and off again.

Happy to provide the same logs as OP if it helps.

I have exactly the same problem.
Is it related to the B0:AA:33:88:88:88 mac address?
Would any logs from my phone be helpful to resolve this issue?
Best wishes.

No sorry, no logs needed, the cause is clear, its happening at the very lowest possible Android level. We need to dig why...

Hi all, I am experiencing the same on my Bacon with 16.04, first with RC channel, then I moved to devel (r409 as of 3rd August 18) hoping it would help, but same issues.
Typically with web browser, the first site shows and then any subsequent connection fails.
For me this is a pure wifi problem as I don't have a SIM card (yet).
Happy to provide logs or open a separate issue if necessary.
Thanks, Marc
