Dr. Zhongzhou Chen - UCF Faculty

This is an excerpt from Dr. Chen's acceptance for the UCF 2021 AIM High Impact Award. Here are links to his UCF Faculty Profile

With [Obojobo Next & the Center for Distributed Learning's support] I created 72 online learning modules for PHY2048 over the past 3 years. Each of those modules combines a little bit of instruction, homework, and quiz - all centered on a single topic. The 72 modules covered all the major topics in physics 1, and replaces the textbook, the online homework, and part of the course assessment. Ever since I introduced the first 10 modules back in 2017, they've constantly been rated by the students as the most useful learning resources in the course and continue to boost my SPI (student perception of instruction) rating year after year.

Moreover, data from those modules has so far allowed me to publish 12 peer reviewed papers, studying everything from when students start to do their homework to how the abrupt campus closure caused by COVID-19 affected student's learning - AND win a NSF career award at the same time.

For me the obojobo modules are not just a free alternative, they are a free major upgrade. Best of all, the modularized design allowed me to start with just 4 modules in 2017, and gradually add more modules until the entire course became free of textbook cost in spring of 2020. With an amazingly intuitive WYSIWYG editing interface, you can start to create your first Obojobo learning module today. So I really hope that more instructors can join me in efforts to provide students with not just affordable learning resources, but also higher quality, and constantly improving resources. And use those resources to transform student learning experiences at UCF.
